OCO mission failure

So I'm reading reports about the failed OCO mission this morning and truly saddened by yet another failed NASA mission. Depressing. If you forward to about the 6:15m point, the mission manager talks about electronic pulses being sent to ordinance..basically these are controlled explosions or pyrotechnics used onboard the launch vehicle to separate parts which are intended to fall off both before reaching orbit and even after orbit is reached to deploy solar panels or communication panels. I can relate to this particular failure because years ago, one of our vehicles failed to deploy solar panels due to a pyro failure. No solar panels = no charging the batteries = a 400lbs. paperweight floating in space. I feel your pain, OCO team.
